Our Story & Calling

Returning to the simplicity of New Testament church life

Church community gathering

Who We Are

A family of believers rediscovering authentic Christian community

The Church of South Texas began its humble roots in January 2025 when a family of believers in League City felt that the modern churches simply were not providing what was truly needed and sought to return to the New Testament pattern of church life.

Rather than seeking to add another institution to the landscape and risk slowly becoming like every other church "business", we sought to rediscover the intimacy and authenticity of the early church and restore it into modern society - in spite of what culture demands.

We're not reacting against any one thing in particular — we're merely responding to Scripture by way of the Spirit. We believe the simplicity of a home church model isn't a limitation by any means, but rather a blessing, creating space for genuine relationships and Spirit-led fellowship that most churches will begrudgingly admit is lacking in their congregations.

Our community happily includes diverse backgrounds and believers from all stages of life, unified by a shared conviction: the New Testament provides not just a historical description of church life, but a prescriptive blueprint for today and beyond.

Our Convictions

What we believe and why we gather in homes

Historic Christian Orthodoxy

We hold to historic Christian orthodoxy — the Bible as God's Word: "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Saved by Grace Through Faith

We believe that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ — not by our works (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). This faith is living and active, working through love and demonstrated by our obedience (Galatians 5:6; James 2:17, 26; 1 John 2:3-6). In Christ we are created for good works — prepared by God — that we should walk in them, bearing fruit as we abide in Him (Ephesians 2:10; John 15:5, 8-10).

Watching for His Return

We know His return is near and act accordingly. Jesus taught that this generation or age would see the signs — wars, rumors of wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, and the gospel preached to all nations by His Church and eventually His angel (Matthew 24:6-14) (Rev. 14:6-7). We recognize the birth pains of these last days and prepare ourselves spiritually, watching and staying faithful through the tribulations that precede His coming (Matthew 24:42-44).

Home church gathering

"Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."

— Matthew 18:20

The Home as Sacred Space

Our distinctives aren't merely in doctrine but in practice. We gather in homes because the New Testament church met primarily in homes (Acts 2:46, Romans 16:5, 1 Corinthians 16:19) and because it is conducive to the practice and environment that breeds proper obedience, worship, teaching, and discipleship. This wasn't merely a result of persecution or poverty in their time — it was an intentional recipe for success in God's Earthly kingdom.

The Narrow Path

We're not anti-church per se or exclusive to a fault. We simply believe God has called us to this pattern, and we invite others who share that conviction to join us in rediscovering what church was always meant to be - the kind of Church you find on the narrow path.

What to Expect

Simple, participatory gatherings centered on Christ

Fellowship and worship

Refreshingly Simple

Our gatherings are refreshingly simple. We aim to meet weekly in homes for worship, teaching, prayer, and fellowship — just as Acts 2:42 describes. There's no stage, no program, no dress code.

Everyone Participates

Everyone can participate. Someone may suggest a song, another shares a Scripture, someone else offers a word of encouragement, others may have a revelation, or a prophetic word, and we hold no admonishment toward the gift of tongues as used properly in Scripture. It's conversational, family-like, and led by the Spirit rather than a strict schedule - though by no means disorderly.

All Ages Welcome

All ages are welcome. Children can participate alongside adults, learning what church looks like by experiencing it, not through age-segregated programs. If they cannot remain focused and intune for an extended teaching - as most likely cannot - then we simply let children be children. Come as you are — casual, comfortable, ready to engage - but leave Spirit filled and sanctified.
